- The Annual Venice Garden Tour
- (310) 821-1857 In its twelfth year, this tour attracts more than 2,000 people annually to peep at the areas most coveted gardens. Venice is a hotbed for high-profile landscape designers like Jay Griffith (whose client list includes Brad Pitt), one of the founders of the tour.
- The canals
- Enter at Washington Blvd. It's called Venice for a reason: In 1905, Abbot Kinney created 16 miles of canals inspired by those in Italy. Most were paved over in the late '20s, but six remain. Lately, a renaissance has turned the little waterways, connected by wooden bridges, into a showcase for restored Craftsman bungalows and cutting-edge homes.
- Venice Beach
- Weight lifters, tattoo parlors, surfers, skaters and cyclists share this wide strip of Ocean Walk, where the air is filled with the delicious smells of fried dough and Coppertone. It's a tad seedy but a truly authentic Venice experience, and thanks to local environmental groups, the water is cleaner than ever.
