Inspired by: 19th-century houses in Virginia. Signatures: Easels for art and objects, drum shades, trays on large ottomans, featherbeds over mattresses. Styling tricks: Propping books vertically between book ends on coffee tables, and displaying collections of similar objects, like amber glass in different shapes.

Signature: Pillows made from vintage Pucci, Gucci and Hermès silk scarves. Decorating tricks: High-gloss ceilings (to make rooms seem taller), frames fitted with antiqued glass (cheaper than antique mirrors). Personal luxuries: Using the "good silver" every day, buying flowers every week, collecting art and furniture.
