Skin absorbs a good bit of what you put on it. If you wouldn't drink the ingredients in your beauty products, why put them on your body? Conventional lotions and potions contain gunk often grown with pesticides, which are not only bad for skin but can also contaminate the soil and groundwater.
BIG BTW: Products labeled "organic" must contain at least 95 percent organic elements. But those marked "made with organic ingredients" (at least 70 percent organic) or "natural" may still contain some nasty stuff. To decode the back of the bottle, use the rule of thirds: The top third usually makes up 90 to 95 percent of the formula; the middle third, 5 to 8 percent; and the bottom third, 1 to 3 percent. Organic ingredients at the middle or end of the list are pretty much just for show.
