A bland table, blah bed, or boring sofa gain real visual interest with luxe cover-ups. Here are some expert ideas on using fabric for instant redecorating.

  1. Transform unused space: Donghia turned a corner near her bedroom into a "one-stop jewelry stop" by throwing a sumptuous Indian fabric over a plywood table.
  2. Consider your bed a canvas: She creates a "textural landscape" of whites and off-whites out of embroidered linen sheets, crocheted blankets and even antique tablecloths or draperies used as coverlets.
  3. Experiment with contrasts: Donghia mixes sparkly pillows and throws with homespun ones on the sofa for a look that is "refined and humble at the same time."
