My Kitchen Dreams

Img_3700 It's sunny outside and the light is streaming into the kitchen. I'm not alone. I'm cooking for someone. Or maybe a few people. We are about to eat French food or something healthy. Maybe it's onion tart. And I made the crust. Or else soup, and I saved all the vegetable ends and made my own stock. And remembered to use it before it got frostbitten.

There's music playing, but not too loud. It reminds me of being twenty-eight.

I'm wearing a vintage dress and apron with silver mesh Chinese slippers. The whole outfit cost less than ten dollars. Less than the food I'm about to serve.

Everything is good but not fussy. I am domestic but I didn't spend all day in the kitchen. There's room to eat there, a place to keep my little peacock tray with the coffee and tea things. Everyone's admiring my blue and white striped coffee pot--I can't not mention that it cost 50 cents. It's what I do well--manage to get something for nothing every once in a while. And lie a little. The coffee pot probably cost five dollars, but you all know me well enough to know that already.

The pots and pans are hanging from a pegboard on the wall. The wooden spoons and things are in drawers near the stove. I have an actual knife set with a wooden block to hold them. There are no electrical cords visible. The cat box is somewhere in the room but you can't see it. I don't care that much that things aren't perfect, but they are fine and they are mine and they make me happy.

That is a lovely kitchen dream, Scrap!
I see it... Warm, eclectic, cozy - very personal ... a backdrop for your collection of vintage and flea marketed treasures.
I especially like that there are no electrical cords to spoil the illusion. I haven't mastered that one!
I can't wait to see the becoming of the Scrappy Kitchen.
Hearts!

Wow, Scrappy. I love the images. I can just see myself there sitting at the table talking casually with you and all the while admiring your treasures.

your kitchen dream immediately made me think of this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/very_lame/2466700948/in/pool-39185427@N00
I though i remembered you mentioning earlier about possible putting a fabric skirt under your sink. Maybe you can kid the kitty litter under there.

Yeah, vertigo, I kind of had my own version of that with this table and a big table cloth hanging down so you couldn't see the litter box. I wonder if people think I'm just gross for having cat litter in the kitchen...

That's a beautiful dream. How different is it from your waking life?

I love the images. I think it could be your reality as well. When can we come over? : )

Come over tonight! I'm having a few people for dinner before the place gets torn apart.
