Kitchen Sink Skirt: Too Foo Foo?
Remember how I don't like foofy things? When Susan mentioned a skirt on the kitchen sink I was suspicious. But then my trusty coworker, Amy Shearn, the lady who writes most of the clever stuff on this site, pointed out that the lovely Lili Diallo has a skirt beneath her sink and it ain't foofy. Ya see?
It might actually be genius to do this in my house since the cabinets I get won't match the built ins...
What'dya think?

I love that little kitchen!
I think a skirted sink could be great, but I'd shy away from ruffles etc... to keep it from becoming too Laura Ashley. I think the more tailored, the better. Maybe pleats?
Sigh, I do love checkered floors, they're so nostalgic and homey.
I'm all for it but now you have to choose a fabric. A print or solid, cutesy or boho, stripe or pattern, matching in color or contrast?
Like it, and you get to choose fabric - could be wonderful (and EASY.)
Oh, no, not another choice.
I love Amy Butler fabrics.....modern and pretty, but not too foo foo!
Scrappy...I like it. Maybe for me??? Nah. Babies would be playing with it too much. But for you? Adds texture, interest.
I think the sink skirt is adorable as well. Simple straight seams or the pleats idea sound nice. I'm sure we don't have to tell you to avoid ruffles, right? Just discovered your blog the other day and I haven't been able to put it down, now I've read it through from the beginning. I love your style.. I'm getting more retro-vintage by the moment....
Welcome blissful1974. I'm so glad you like the blog. Most days it's a joy to write!
I've seen tea towels used that way. Might be a little too rustic for you, though. Definitely not foo-foo.
I think in the right fabric it could work, or if you want it even "cleaner" you could install fabric roller shades instead.
