Forty-Three Inches

Domsjo_ikea_single_sink

Forty-three inches, that's what I have to work with for my sink and the cabinets around it. So, I think the double Domsjo sink from IKEA isn't going to work in my kitchen. I thought I'd just post how I think I have to buy the single, but then I Googled Domsjo sink. Yikes. Look what they say on GardenWeb--it rests on cabinets on both sides. I thought I'd use butcher block countertops, but I don't know if I have much room for counters on both sides. So much to learn.

Has anyone used this sink with a non-IKEA cabinet? IKEA-hacker has a few ideas.

Hmm, the Domsjo definitely does need supporting cabinets--the sides are finished and the front sort of...wedges out to make the apron? We used the narrowest cabinets Ikea offers on one side, and cut butcher block to fit and follow the angle (it's an angled bookshelf)--you could put one of those on each side and it wouldn't add much width at all. I don't know if Ikea makes a narrower version of the sink cabinet that holds the sink, but they must. So it would be a narrow bookshelf with counter, then the sink cabinet, then another narrow shelf/counter.

That's an idea. I have this weird little lip that sticks out of the wall and the stove is set up next to the sink. Maybe I could get away with cutting butcher block to fit the lip a bit and scooch the stove down at least a little bit. I hate the idea of a sink next to a stove, but I'm not sure what else to do.

Have you ever posted a floorplan, with careful measurements, of your kitchen? I ended up doing something completely different from my original plan, and sometimes there are creative solutions to the space issues out there, and I bet your readers can help you find them!
