The Ten Dollar Blog Post

Guess who now owns five bedside tables? Yeah. But this latest table, like the Ferm Feather wallpaper, is a puzzle piece, a living testament to gut instinct. I know it goes somewhere in my apartment, I'm just not sure where. First I tried the living room. I have a favorite spot, but you go first.

Oh and incidentally I bought it for ten dollars from a very nice stoop salesman at a garage sale in Park Slope, so if I'm totally off base, don't feel bad about saying so. As if!

It's a bedroom piece, if anything. It doesn't look happy next to that big leather sofa.

Speaking of which, how about a couple of throw pillows on that baby? As it is, it's reading like a big massive lump of darkness.

That lamp looks good on it, thanks to the white blocky shade...I think that shade overpowered the clear glass table...?

Throw pillows are an abomination unto the L*rd. Don't you dare put them on that couch. :)

Okay, then, I'll try the bedroom tonight.

I agree with katef. That table is a more substantial foundation for the lamp. I like it at the end of the sofa farthest from the window - it adds a little lightness to that area of the room and looks nice with the white trim on the windows/baseboards.

i love the table near the sofa! it does not have to be in a bedroom, there is no such thing as a "bedroom" piece or a "living" room piece. geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. outside the box, people, outside the box.

i like it on either side of the sofa and especially love the gold lamp on it! go.for.it.

I'd go for photo #1 or #4. Didn't that table have a mate? I mean your latest find, not the glass-top end table.

"Hestia", I believe I see a living room taking shape. Bravo!

It's a cute table but it looks too heavy next to the couch when all your other tables are glass. If it were painted the wall colour then that's another story because it wouldn't stand out so much. Might be cute right under the window. I agree that the lamp looks good on it.

I love the table with the light on it, it brightens up your dark living room. I also like on the other side of the room from the white chair because it spreads the light-colored objects around the room. Which side of the sofa it should be on? I have no idea. I definitely like it though.

I changed my mind, I really like the first pic with the lamp under the black & white picture and I think two graphic B&W pillows on the sofa could be a good idea too.

To sum up:
Put it on the left,
Put it on the right,
Put it by the window,
Put it in the bedroom,
Paint it green,
and
Get a second one.

Hello!

Sorry, am jumping into the exercise of 'decorate scrappy girl's apartment' quite late :-)...but have a radical suggestion to make..

I think if you could change your couch (ouch!?)...or, if it is a family heirloom, reno the couch with bright or white sofa slipcovers - it would make SUCH a difference to the character of the room! I think the couch is overshadowing eveything else and trying to fit everything else around it might not be the best idea. And while you are at it, a bright rug would work wonders! (Imagine - pastel green walls, white couch, and a bright rug with snatches of green/yellow/ochre) :-)

Apologies if this horse has already been dealt with earlier ;-)

(Bhavna's right about the sofa.)

Get rid fo the sofa! But where would the cat poop if she got mad at me?! Kidding...

Of course you're all right about the sofa--I never would have bought that sofa of my own accord, especially since I grew up with the nastiest brown leather sofa you've ever seen... I did go through that dilemma--I have the perfect sofa in mind. Well one, but I have the cat problem. Seriously. So I decided not to spend money on a couch. But...the cats seem to have fallen for the double-sided tape trick on the chair. I could pay a little, invest in a lot of tape and wait.

i'm always surprised when i read such honest comments from people, maybe i just need to really write what is on my mind as well!

truthfully, the couch is not my favorite either, but i'm just not a fan of leather...(my mom just bought a leather sofa that she thinks is gorgeous and i think it is a masculine monstrousity). which, i suppose, all goes down to personal pref. and if you like the darn sofa, keep it.

that being said, you could always livin it up a bit with pillows--i know someone else said pillows were a dreadful idea--but they would make it warmer. plus i am a pillow hore. second, a rug would rock it! of course, a rug would rock in my living area too, i just have not found the right one, with the right price.

did i mention i love this blog?

Not a big fan of slipcovers myself, but everyone is making washable versions now, which may be the answer to the kitty situation.

one of my coworkers swears she found the solution to kitty problems. we'll see. she has yet to produce evidence. let me see if my sofa's still available.

by the way, sjhgray, who are you again? i forget since this silly system doesn't link names with URLs. i'm so glad you love my neurotic blog!

Scrap, take that fern wallpaper and wallpaper the end table. Voila. No slipcovers PLEEEEEEASE. I agree with the need for throw pillows but I haven't gotten there yet, either, so feel no bad.

Lots more good advice to ignore. Better get started.

pt!!! what should i do?

Sell and Start Over.

I'd switch Li'l Whitey out with Li'l Student Desk Chair. Li'l Whitey would make a boss nightstand. Not sure what to do with L'il Student Desk Chair; just stick it in a corner for the moment. Then I'd move two of the other four end tables into the living room. One on each side of Big Brownie. Then: go to Crate & Barrel for throw pillows. Their selection is brilliant. Just two'll do ya.

OH NO SCRAPPY! Too, way too, country/cottage!!!! I like the arrangements of objects though. Especially the leaning painting.

xoxoxo,
Yliana

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Don't you wish we had a TV show and I could do this in fast motion? I wish I had movers.

Here's something you shouldn't do: stick wallpaper all over it. Those kinds of tricks usually end up looking sad and desperate, plus you've just wasted a bunch of good wallpaper on something that now looks like crap.

In any event, I'm too chicken to wallpaper the wall, let alone furniture or a refrigerator!

Nick has "the touch" and can work that kind of crafty magic, but it's a gift most of us don't have, probably.
