I'm Banning Myself from eBay

I've got a trigger finger when it comes to the mouse. And an impulsive personality when it comes to shopping. I won't get started because it's late, but honestly I'm either deny, deny deny, don't let self have, or buy, buy, buy, things I don't need, am not sure I like, can't really afford.

I won two eBay auctions for nightstands now--the top two in post below. I put in such low bids I thought there was no way I'd win. Careful what you wish for. Now I have to find my way to Enfield, CT to get the mid-century tables, and possibly pay for shipping from Westminster, CO for the (second) deco nighstand that I don't even like. Or convince my little brother to drive there from Denver to pick it up. Hmmm.

I want to bid on the tall, pretty pair, but it's going to cost $300 minimum to ship. Road trip?

Would someone please explain how to use eBay properly?

Well i can tell you one REALLY important thing. you should NEVER bid on an item until AT LEAST the last hour. This is for two reasons. 1. you'll know if you really want it if you wait that long, and more importantly, 2. you just end up driving up the price for yourself and others by bidding too early. If you like something, WATCH IT! That way you can check in on your items and delete them if you're over them or the price gets too high.

Hope it helps!

I've had such wonderful luck locally (craigslist, vintage shops)that I'm just not willing to pay the cost of shipping for large, heavy items. I think that vintagetrunkshow gives good advice. Try to practice patience. If you've watched something for a few days and you still feel like it's worth to cost of shipping, bid at the very last moment. This does two things: 1. you sneak up on any other serious bidders, giving them no chance to increase their max bid. 2. it gives you time to decide how much you're willing to spend and very little time to up your offer in those last anxious moments. That being said: I once purchased a pair of aluminum Emeco chairs on ebay (paid about $140 with shipping). It was a great deal and I will NEVER regret that purchase.

That's great advice. Maybe I should try to bid on something other than bedside tables this time...
