domino is GIVING AWAY a Living Room Makeover: If I Won, I'd...

Montauk_sofa

I can't enter the living room sweepstakes, obviously. But you can... You get a  consultation with a domino stylist and some money towards a living room makeover.

If I won, I'd buy the Montauk Sofa above, and this round wooden table right out of Steven Sclaroff's house. And then I'd be out of money. Oh wait, it's only $3,600 on 1stdibs.com.

What would you buy?

$20,000??? Wow!! OK, first I'd do over my existing carpeting, which is a very wonderful diamond sisal with black threading in it. I think that would probably come to about half the budget, but it's fraying now, and I love it and the foundation to the room is important after all. After that, definitely a very sexy flat screen tv, a fabulous sound system, and yes, back to furniture, two great sofas. I think that does it!

$20,000, that boggles the mind! Hmmm, first I would buy a new sofa. Now even the best sofa I've ever wanted would cost $1,800, so what would I do with the rest? I'm still pretty attached to the stuff I have but before buying all new furniture, I would commission a carpenter to install new shelves, build me a retro TV console and end tables. Painters would come in and paint all the rooms. I would send my craft cabinet and dresser out to be painted, have new curtains made for both rooms, have my art professionally framed, buy new bed linens, dishes, utensils, and have closet systems installed. That's what I would do.

I like my most of my furniture, but I'd buy really great storage pieces and a new dining room table and chairs.

I need your decorating help desperately. My husband and I just bought our dream house and we have no idea how to furnish it. Every time we get on the internet to look at furniture we get in a fight. We have very different tastes and are moving from a very traditional Colonial style house into a Bungalow/Craftsman type house. Because we used our budget on buying the house...we really need to use the furniture that we currently have. How do we make that work with the new house. I don't even know where to begin...do I recover? Do we add some new peices to tie everything together...what type of pieces do we add to pull this off..what resources could I use to do this? I would be obsessed if we won the $20,000 makeover mainly so I could have the guidance from you guys to make our house reflect how much we love it. Please let me know where to start so that I can decorate our new house to look like a page out of your magazine but on a budget and with different styles of furniture. Oh did I mention I am in Kansas City so my resources are limited. Thanks for your help in advance. Abby McCaffree
