Living Room Progress

Img_2885

This morning Holly at decor8 asked me how my living room is coming along. I've sort of been hiding it--got a nasty case of house shame again. It's also hard to get a good photo of it...not that that's stopped me from posting in the past.

Well, here's one side--the dining room side. I wasn't thinking of leaving those things on the table quite like that but what do you think of the gold lamp on the table where you're eating?

Ugh, I can't tell you how awful the lighting situation is in this room If there's not a lamp on the table, you can't see your food. Would one of those hanging lamp things that plugs in work even if the cord were visible?

Hey Scrap, it's looking great. I really like the symmetry that you have. I think the lamp looks smashing. Now, 2 things: get yourself to reprotdepot or Purlshoho and order some fabric for some sweet cushion covers and get yourself a switchplate cover. Little things each week, lead up to big things over time.

Ooops sorry - just enlarged it and saw that you do have a switch cover!

You're so encouraging. Thank you, thank you. Love your pink shoe!

Alas, it's not my pink shoe. Limits. Had to set limits. Pink rubber shoes (big sigh) didn't fall under - never mind, it's too painful. Can't talk about it. The rubber shoes that got away...

what a careful reader i am...

How about one of those little block shelves, just for the lamp. Get it up and on the wall, off the table. Or better yet install a sconce, perhaps amber beaded?

Love the green! Have you considered painting/lacquering the chairs to "match" the table?

Hey, regular reader, first time commenter. I like the idea of the lamp on a block shelf, and I would get the pictures up on the wall too. But I really like to have a clear table for eating. I have question about your green paint. I *LOVE* the color in the picture of your lamp, below. But this picture, with the dining area, is darker than what I'm looking for. Is it the same color in different lighting or 2 different colors? And what is the color (of the paint below, with the lamp, if they are different).

i like the way the lamp on the table looks. although, if you feel like it's eating up precious space an overhead light that plugs in isn't terrible. i have few in my place (since i am not aboue to get involved with hard wiring lighting) and I just carefull tack the cord to the wall and paint it to match the wall color. It practically disappers.

Oh, I love the idea of a block shelf. I'll try that. And the pictures must go on wall, yes. I even think painting the chairs could be interesting. The black table isn't really mine--it's my ex-bf's so I'm not sure it's sticking around forever. That's the weird thing--I have a few big things that may go bye-bye one day. Wouldn't it be weird to paint the chairs gold? I wouldn't dare...

Welcome mjoe. Congratulations on getting through the labyrinthine registration process (ugh)! There are two different color paints in the room. The one to the right of the lamp is Dill Pickle from Benjamin Moore, the one behind the table is Basil or something (it's some old post). Best thing to do is look at this post--it has a link to the number, etc. for Dill Pickle.

Good luck!

Ah, ze dill pickle! Merci! I saw dill pickle in a living room on AT and loved it there too. On the BM website, it looks really khaki, almost brown, but what I see on my screen is a very pretty but subdued spring green. Is that what you see in real life? I need to get myself to a BM store, but there's none nearby.

The story about your smoking lounge and the French dude was hilarious, btw.

About your wires, there was a thing on AT: Tech about flat wires you can stick to the wall and paint. Too expensive for me, though.

It's definitely green--spring, new leaves on the trees, with a hint of yellow, green!

Yeah, cords. Honestly, I can't get my act together to deal with them, so I've learned to tuck them out of the way when I take a picture for the blog. I mean, isn't that what people do for magazines...
