Enough with the Scarcity Mentality
I have 22 coats. Twenty-three--I just bought an orange leather jacket at a vintage store in Maine. This is ridiculous. 90 divided by 22 is 4, plus some. In other words, if I rotated the coats every day during the three months of winter, I would still only wear each coat four times.
I promise I am not a spendthrift--if you average out the cost of the coats, I spent about $25 dollars on each. What I am, is afraid. Of not having anything. Of not being able to take care of myself or pay the rent, or apparently, have a coat. I think it's because my father's family had money a long time ago and then lost it all. But that's my film, not my blog post...
This may be akin to the horror vacui I wrote about last year. Or maybe not.
The point is, I need to get rid of things. Lickety-split. What I need to do is find myself a clothing swap on craigslist like the one my coworker Corliss had last weekend. Here she and her pals are, exchanging clothes and taking the leftovers to a women's shelter in Brooklyn. (Photos courtesy Allison Kave).
I don't see anything on swap-o-rama-rama and all I can find on craigslist is people looking for models...
What's a girl to do?

check out this site: http://www.unwantd.com, that might help with your swapping needs.
ooh, or check out this brooklyn clothing swap meet up: http://clothesswap.meetup.com/84/?gj=sj6
Love the clock vignette - very clever. Maybe you could do a coat vignette if you have a few that you love dearly. Husband got me this shimmery one from Banana a couple of years ago. Sooooo elegant, I think I'm just going to hang it on the wall. If coats are your thing, keep them without apologies! On the other hand, that whole giving away process it sooooo freeing. I'm trying to do it myself and it's so difficult.
I have a lot of coats too...It's hard to part with things. I need to get rid of stuff too...
I'm in the midst of donating most of the stuff I don't use, or like anymore to the library, friends, salvation army, etc.
If you want a little cash for stuff you want to toss, how about selling a bunch of your stuff en masse on ebay? I saw this post on ebay for a bulk sale of a woman's clothes. Wardrobe in a box. Just a thought...
