Why it's Easier to Have Nice Curtains in England

Lisas_curtains

My friend Lisa whom I stayed with in London had these curtains made with fabric she got from the Designers Guild in London. (She copied them from her sister Nina, but that's their issue.) Either way, I think they're just so cheerful and graphic and they look perfect in her neutral room. Lisa, who's the designer on the fabric, I forget?

Close up and more about why this matters after the jump.

But, dear reader, the great thing is that she got designer fabric by walking into the bi-annual sale at  Designers Guild right off the street and digging through piles of fabric where she found this remaindered and deeply discounted. In the US, you can't do that. You have to hire a designer to get it for you, or go to one of these regional design centers.

If I could be spontaneous, I'd be more likely to get lucky with gorgeous fabric I love at a discount. Of course, I was ill-prepared as our little double-decker bus inched past the store in Chelsea to hop off and see what I could find. I'll have to go back during the sale.

Ah, Tricia Guild...Don't you just lover her? I am dying for that new book of hers. You would think that living in Marrakesh, I would have plenty of color inspiration already. But I am color greedy....

oh maryam dear, you are NOT greedy at all. :)

cathy I'm so happy you are back and blogging, I have missed your posts.
