Oscar Wilde as Inspiration

250pxoscar_wilde_as_salome

Can this outfit be turned into a room? I think we're about to find out. Because I've found my inspiration for my bedroom. It's my old pal Oscar Wilde, posed here as Salome. I'd completely forgotten about this picture until I discovered it on this blog, Uncovering, which is a complete mystery to me--I can't figure out who it is or what it is. It could be that my Portugese is too rusty... Let me know if you figure it out.

In any case, I kind of like the sumptuousness of the Marie Antoinette look--you can see a behind-the-scenes video of our photo shoot on this site--but phooey on her. I heart Oscar Wilde more. I even dressed up as him for Halloween one year. I mean look at him--even as himself. That's like the Platonic ideal of horror vacui. I'll have more to say about why Oscar Wilde is my hero tomorrow. I have to think about it.

Cathy I'm Wilde girl myself and love this post. In 1998, on my second trip to Paris, I insisted on finding the hotel where he "lived" for a short period - and I stayed there, too!

Did you see the film about him - it's great.... It's called "Wilde" directed by Brian Gilbert?

WOW!!! What an inspiration! I love the photos, as well as the idea. Run with it...

ok - this is 4 months later, but i only just now read the posts about oscar wilde as inspiration. now i am wondering if my boyfriend suffers from "horror vacui" --- i recently moved into a new apt and the first thing he said was - "wow, there are a lot of nice blank walls for you to put up pictures and things." yep - he's got the disease! i always thought he was just ultra sentimental!
