My First Stereo

Speakers

I've lived most of my life without a proper stereo. Growing up we had one of those huge counsole things that had a turntable and an 8-track tape player, but we never really listened to much music. My mother sang Puccini while she did the dishes. Which is funny considering the fact that she studied musical theater in college. Lately she's been caught listening to Billy Joel's "Glass Houses" on 8-track. If she knew how to comment on this blog, I'm sure she'd say I'm being fanciful, but until she does I can say whatever I want about her...

When I went to college, I bought my first "boom box" at Crazy Eddie in Poughkeepsie, NY. It was black and red and green--prettier than it sounds and sounded. But it was downhill from there. Until my music-writer ex-boyfriend moved in with his super stereo and one-thousand-plus CD collection. Then he moved out, and I was left in silence again. That was, oh, over a year and a half ago...

But just last week, my friend helped me buy this Tivoli Audio Model Two AM/FM stereo. Well, not the one at the top of this post, the one below. (Can you tell which picture I took?) I connect it to my laptop in the living room and voila, I can get dressed and listen to all the Barry White I want.

Looking for an inexpensive set of speakers for your iTunes that also plays the radio? Look no further.

You know, secretly, Billy Joel IS a musical-theatre songwriter. I mean, if "Piano Man" and "Captain Jack" aren't expository-narrative-devices-waiting-for-a-play I don't know what is. Total music-creep comment, but maybe sheds a little light on why your Mom has a fondness (weakness) for Joel, that drunken, car-crashing, marrier-of-26-year-olds.

Congrats on your very cool stereo. The model you got earns raves all around, including one, as it turns out, from my own Mom.

I must have one!
Jan hogs the music in this marriage. If I play something on "his" stereo, he comes running in with such panic on his face - like I'm going to accidentally light it on fire or something.
I need musical freedom! I'm going to get one of these.
Thanks, Doll!

i love the way tivolis look! how's the sound quality?

It sounds great!
