Garage Sale Find #1
I got lucky this weekend and found two metal garden chairs like this one for five dollars each. They belonged to a sweet Greek lady in Brooklyn. I'm planning to sand them down and repaint or powder coat them cocoa brown.
So what if I don't have outdoor space, I'll just make some in my living room. I can pretend I'm on a porch in the Midwest bouncing away surrounded by fireflies.
Now I need to look around for some nice, round cushions that would work for the seat. Any tips?

$5 dollars, that is a bargain they look great, cannot wait to see them refinished..
That chair is so bold that it looks like a drawing. You should paint the shape of the chair back onto your ceiling, and extend the lines to cover the entire space!! Like a big graphic sun shining it's rays all over your apartment. Ya know, to tie it all in.
Thanks jbanks--I suppose that means I'll have to finish them pronto! Nothing like promises to make you get something done!
And Martina--you're a genius. If only I were so bold. Maybe I am.
I'd ignore my cheap, penny-pinching inner voice and pay a professional to upholster custom made cushions with a bold print and a bright contrasting piping.
I have a little suggestion for you...
Paint each one of the floral 'spokes' a different color. You could go with all bold hues in primary colors - red, green, yellow... or you could go for cooler hues in softer shades of
mint, pink, butter yellow... Finish with your favorite color
in the center. This would really add visual interest to the piece, especially since it's amazingly ornate and with the right colors to punch it up, you could easily use this indoors, too. So pretty!
Another tip - you could paint the flower in red and leave the rest of the chair white for a scandinavian chic look.
What a GREAT find!

Oh and by the way, for cushions just measure the seat and stitch them up yourself - I can totally see a Kerry Cassill print on this chair!

I LOVE chairs like that! I'd love to see them painted fire-engine red in that dill green room of yours. If your bathroom has any extra space whatsoever, I'd stack neathly folded white towels on it.
As for cushions, and for other things, get in the habit of bringing a tape measurer with you everywhere you go - you never know when you might stumble across a great bargain round cushion and you'll inevitable incorrectly guess the size.
Thanks again, Holly! I haven't looked at the Kerry Cassill site in a long time. There are great things there. And I do love Becky's idea of using the chair in the bathroom, though I'm not sure I have room. I'll measure it! Did you all see this gorgeous tape measure we featured last year?

It's from Crate & Barrel--but it's only 5 feet long. Also, I think that link is broken. Have to remember to fix it.
