Puppy Painting Arrives!

Pup_port_in_sit
I'm off topic again, but I promised to show everyone an image of the Puppy Portrait in place, when it got here. Well it's here! Jon Kroll did a most amazing job capturing the personalities of my little gargoyles - Dexter looks slightly worried and Sadie seems to be dreamily pondering what kind of trouble she's planning on getting into next. Jan and I decided that we HAD to put it over the fireplace mantle- really, where else could it go?
Pups_on_mantle Devoted reader Suasoria shared this link with us - any hummingbird lover will be captivated. Right now, there are approximately three to five hummingbird families patrolling the garden - I wish I could get a shot of one or two of them, but they are just too damned fast!

very nice! what do your dogs think of it?

OMG, your HOUSE! Is FANTASTIC!

The painting looks nice, too. That top shot looks very magazine-ish with the dog in the foreground.

Chanchow - Hi! The dogs remain indifferent to the beautiful art made in their honor. I thought Dexter might have a reaction because he recognizes pictures of dogs and barks at dogs on the tv- but I got nothing from him. I didn't dare let Sadie get anywhere near it - she would either try to lick it or sit on it. Silly puppies!

Katef - Why thanks for the house props! We were REALLY lucky to find this beautiful little Spanish bungalow in Eagle Rock a long time ago - we would never be able to afford it now. I love it here ... it's hard for me to leave, which is why my preferred method of being social is throwing dinner parties!

I've been to Eagle Rock! Cute little spot near Glendale, right? That was like 1990. In fact, it was New Year's 1989/1990.

Love the puppy portrait. We had a portrait done of our Baby Kitty (that was her name), may she rest in peace.

Chuckb - yes, that's Eagle Rock! Right between Glendale and Pasadena - but you'd never recognize it now... it went from a sleepy little town to a groovy artist-y neighborhood. Its a very nice place to hang your hat.

How wonderful that you have a painting of Baby Kitty! I am so thrilled that we captured these pups on canvas, and i know that when they are no longer with us, this portrait is going to make me smile.

Thanks for commenting! Please keep on stopping by!

Isn't it a curse and a blessing that we couldn't afford to buy and live in our own houses today?

That stone on your fireplace is very Batchelder. Is it original?

Regarding the dogs recognizing themselves, I have to mention that yesterday I caught my cat grooming herself IN FRONT OF A MIRROR. Seriously, she was looking at herself while she washed up. I have a little vanity table with a stool, and she was sitting on the stool looking right at her reflection. Pert little diva!

And she also recognizes animals on TV, including herself. We have a video of her as a kitten and she will run to the TV and watch herself whenever we pop it in.

Germi, your house is gorgeous and so are your pups! I'll be right over with my black thumb! I also bought my house many years ago, and could not afford to buy it back, even with the current state of affairs in the mortgage/real estate market. I also have a spanish-style bungalow, but the doofus who lived there prior to me, did a horrible "remuddling" job, for which I am still trying to restore back to it's former semi-grandeur. (they apparently thought it was a good idea to remove the faux-fireplace and the closet from the spare room.) I would love to see more interior shots of your gorgeous home.

Good eye, Susa - it's an authentic Batchelder tile fireplace and it is original to the house ... weren't we lucky? Alot of these were removed and sold off tile by tile in the 80's, or (gasp) painted over. There are two carved tiles in the upper corners, and they depict urns full of flowers - how appropriate, right?
Your kitty sounds like a little movie star! I am glad you can back up my claim for animals recognizing themselves and images of other animals, because alot of my friends don't believe it until they see Dexter in action. I love the idea of your cat running in to watch herself on video. She must be a riot...

Hey there Julesschroom! Thank you for the nice words about the pad and the pups ... they are bundles of craziness! But you' re an animal freak, too - you know how it is.
Isn't it awful, having to fix the remuddling? What were some people thinking? We were so lucky - we are the 3rd owners our 1927 baby, and the people we bought it from just did little things - some were pretty weird, but at least they were small and fairly easily reversable.
I'll show some more interiors- I foist my garden on you guys so much, why not the rest of it?
I'm so pleased y'all think it's nice... I like it, too -
If I show you mine will you show me yours?

Show you mine? Hmmm....I am going to have to do some tidying up first- hahaha! I'll post them on Flickr under...you guessed it, "Julesschroom". Can't wait to see more interior shots.

I have to tidy up, too! After Sunday cleaning, I'll take some house shots...
