Gardening the Plastica Way
Plastica is one of my favorite stores in the world, owned by one of my favorite people in the world, the divine Carla Denker. When you walk into the store (on 3rd Street in Los Angeles), it is like the moment Dorothy drops into Oz - the color is suddenly ON. Carla stocks her store with the eye of a curator - everything is delightful, surprising, and well designed. And no - not everything is made of plastic - the store is a celebration of the plastic arts, not a kooky marketing scheme.
Right now Carla has tons of great stuff for the garden - bright tubs to haul tools and plants in, doormats that look like freshly mown grass, intricately woven plastic carpets and inflatable pillows for your outdoor rooms, beautifully colored egg-shaped bird feeders...
...(they look great in clusters), watering cans shaped like pigs - the list goes on and on. Visit the website and browse, and if you are ever in Los Angeles drop by and enjoy the kid-in-a-candy-store feeling that sweeps over you.

Fun fun fun! The Schatz egg bird feeders are so great--back when they were released I put them in a "25 best design products of the year" list and DWR still mentions it in their catalogue description--for some reason after 4 years of national bylines that little nameless thing still tickles me to death.
I covet those bird feeders so much - I have a vision of hanging ten of them in a small tree -wouldn't that be great? Of course, I'd have to find and plant the perfect tree, then scrape up enough money to buy the eggs... They'd also look fab hanging from my fantasy metal shade structure.
Carla's about to add outdoor furniture to the shop - I can't wait!
You could scratch the itch with one of his planters or indoor lights, if you wanted....The lights are awesome, they cast starlight onto the ceiling! There are piggy (egg) banks, too!

I love all the fun, happy colors. I just came here via Scrappy Girl. I think I'm a pretty hopeless gardener but I'm hoping to pink up a few tips for my back yard. An ideal garden for me would have all of these wonderful colors.
I'm a big fan of yours, casapinka! Whenever you're ready to dip your toe into the gardening thing, you know who to ask for advice - I think helping you create a colorful patio space would be super fun! With lots of hot pink and yellow - I can see it now...
