Help Me...

My name is Dexter. I'm hot. It's almost Thanksgiving and every day it is over 80 degrees. There's this new pup Sadie who lives here and wants to wrestle all day long. The heat doesn't seem to get to her - but I've had it. I'm done. I'm gonna make a break for it. Will anyone give me sanctuary? I have a few requirements - I have allergies so I need a special diet that I hear costs a buttload, I need all new toys since I'm travelling light, it is imperative that I have 2 long walks a day, and I like to eat flowers. I'd like a cool climate, but no snow, please. I'm a Pisces, but I can't swim. I like to yodel, I like to sleep in, and I have been known to be gassy, especially at night - and I believe in the family bed. I am in the beginning planning stages, and haven't figured it all out yet, but I wasn't meant to live in weather like this. Help.

Would like to know more about Dexter. I have a female brindle and white frenchie, almost 2 years old, who looks almost exactly like him. We've been thinking she needs a friend. . .
Hi jennyco - Dexter is a bad dog ... we are all hot, but nobody else is threatening to hightail it!
Only another frenchie owner knows the kind of madness they inspire! Dexter is 5yrs old - we got him when he was a tiny handful at 11 weeks. He is the light of my life.
I totally encourage you to get another one! We got Sadie as Dex's pet - and after a rather rocky start the two are best pals, even though Sadie's fearlessness astonishes and worries him. Dexter's motto is 'Safety First'.
My friends said the post sounds as if I'm looking for a new home for Dex - Sorry! Never! I was just trying to whine about it being hot in a fresh, new way... I hope I didn't mislead you, j-co!
I'm glad you are not getting rid of him! I felt so sad for the little guy! One question: you mention that he has allergies and eats a special diet. Our Frenchie has allergies too -- she's itchy itchy itchy -- and we have started feeding her this home cooked mix called Dr. Harvey's but it isn't helping. Do you have him on a raw diet? And if so, did it help the allergies? Sorry to bug you -- I know this is a garden blog, not a frenchie blog -- but I just thought I'd ask... Thanks!!!
jennyco, garden blog or not, French Bulldogs are always a welcome topic of conversation. It's a quality of life thing - these dogs enhance it immeasurably! As for Dexter's horrible allergies ... don't laugh, this is very 'California' of me ... I take him to a dermatologist. I don't even have a dermatologist! Anyway, she put him on a special low allergan food by science diet that you can only get thru vets - it's called z/d, and it has worked wonders. Another thing is that he is not allowed treats or bones ... no protein. I can give him carrots and apples. It's hard, because everybody wants to treat him (at parties I have a special shirt he wears that says 'No Treats Please'- how sad & cute he looks!)and he, of course, is always looking for contraband. But since we started this program, his skin is perfect, his coat it shiny, and miracles of all miracles - no itchiness!
More photos please! I have a brindle English Bulldog and Dexter looks like her little brother. He's adorable!
BTW, jennyco, my bully also has a ton of allergies and can only eat organic Wysong brand food (she eats the "Maintenance" version). You could give that a try as well. Depending where you live it can be hard to find, but their website has a list of vendors (www.wysong.net/us.shtml). Good luck!
Hi nativeblue - nice to meet you and welcome to this corner of the blogosphere!
I want an English Bulldog BADLY! Jan (that's my husband) and I have swooning over them for years - and I would want a brindled girl, just like you have. Once you go Bulldogs, you really can't go back to a regular snout.
I will post more of Dexter and Sadie's antics in the garden - the only reason there is more of Sadie is because she is a total camera hog, and Dexter has a subtler take on things. He is a dreamboat. Thanks for noticing him!
