Softee Sofabed

It's too easy to type in West Elm and snap up a little knockoff piece o' happy. Finding something stylish at perennial punch line Jennifer Convertibles, however, is next to impossible. But where else can you get a sofabed for $299? Craigslist? That's a good deal, and while not adorable, this Softee (dying inside) has potential:

I like the thin little arms (eat your heart out, Mischa Barton!) and would paint the legs black. Or maybe you have a granny or a neighbor who's handy with a sewing machine and wants to make you a slipcover in exchange for mowing the lawn or correctly filling up her MTWTFSS pill organizer? The Softee needs less bulbous seat cushions boxed out with contrast piping, and square throw pillows instead of dumpy side cushions. Good start or lost cause? Discuss.

I think it's definitely a start. I'm not a fan of microfiber, but $300 bucks isn't bad at all (a step up from some ikea pieces in the same price range.

I have this couch and it has been great. I have it in the same color as the photo (all other colors are more expensive and $300 was my price range at the time) and it has been great. Its also a pull-out, which has been super useful when friends decide to drop by and make my living room home.

Sigh. I say lost cause, what with the painting and the piping...maybe it would be best to get a couch at the thrift store and start from scratch.

Nick - always witty, always right. For the price, that sofa is GREAT! But, I agree I'd rather start from scratch with a vintage piece.

sigh, sfazzini ... i think i'm with you on this. i do have a mild paranoia about mites in used upholstery though.

I happened to be next door to a Jennifer Convertibles on Saturday and walked in to look at this sofa--don't waste your time!! It's very cheap looking...While I might also have concerns about used upholstered furniture, I go that route before I would buy this sofa!

I contemplated buying this when i moved recently but the fabric was just so awful i couldn't bear to pay 300 bucks for it.

Wow, you make it sound like the only people who sew anymore are grandmothers, and infirm ones to boot! Eat your heart out...if you sew, the pillow change is a one hour job, and the slip cover could be accomplished in a day...sewing is a skill that unfortunately no one seems to have time for and sadly disappearing...but hey, they said the same about knitting, so you never know...agree with your comments on the room, however.

au contraire, malakia!! the teasing tone is aimed back at yours truly, because when i read your comment i was literally in the midst of sewing a canvas slipcover for my friend's loveseat (lucky her)!! for real. sewing: not just for grannies anymore (though i sort of am one at heart ...) anyway i applaud your DIY spirit.

Wait! We were just about to purchase an Ikea Karlstaad chaise (like the one we saw in last month's domino, recovered in pink) for our teeny tiny apartment, and then we saw this post.... But after reading the comments, I don't know what to do!
