Plum Produce

I am just writing my copy for Boston, one of the next shopping cities to come out. It is lovely to be reminded of trips and places while I write this up and I wanted to post one of my Bostonian highlights - Plum Produce. Their shop is filled with delicious fruits and vegetables but more practical for the remote shopper they have these test tubes of powdered produce: herbs, fruits and vegetables. They look incredibly pretty and are used by cooks in soups, sauces and well, I suppose anything that needs some flavour. The shop is interesting because there is someone in there slicing for pickles and preparing for powders all the time, so it is really like shopping in a kitchen and purchasing your produce straight from the chef.

I can taste these beauties now.

Oh wow I am loving the powdered produce!
Hi Rita - I love Plum Produce and am happy you discovered it! I wandered in one day while waiting for a seat at B & G Oyster Bar, which is owned by the same people, and a yummy place for dinner. I remember I bought some amazingly vibrant tomato jam.
A few other places in Boston you might want to check out (if you are done with your story already) are Clear Flour Bakery on Thorndike Street in Brookline, which is the most amazingly fragrant and charming little European Bakery with perfect croissants. Also, a shop called Black Ink on Charles Street which has a great selection of cards and has lots of little trinkets and gifts, especially for kids. Also on Charles Street is a nice store called Good which sells pretty lamps and coasters and things... And there's one I don't know the name of that has beautiful Scandinavian furniture - not the mid-century modern stuff - more 19th century I guess. Oh, and my favorite restaurant in Boston is in Cambridge called Oleana - it's middle eastern and the food and ambiance are warm and lovely. The baked alaska is a must.
Hope you enjoyed Boston! I look forward to reading your piece.
I am so glad I found this post. I will be spending a few days in Boston this summer and love finding local food markets that are truly unique. I have a website: http://www.loulies.com - real kitchens, real food. These suggestions may be great for content and cooking ideas for my site.
