Cobalt Blue Stool
I often find it easier to speak in free association pop culture references and movie quotes than carry on an actual conversation. For instance when I saw this garden stool on sale at Pier 1
I immediately launch into Kay's spirited monologue in 9th grade drama, from The Late Christopher Bean by Sidney Howard:
"That's cobalt blue! That's a painting term, cobalt blue! (She continues.) ... And he taught me that old chairs may be more than just old chairs to be thrown away. That some of 'em may be real beautiful."
Don't I know it, Abby/Kay!! While we're at it, there has been a Stool Boom of sorts lately, no? I'm sure Sears will be selling 'em before long. But I still think they're chic and useful as drinks tables (seating, not so much), and this blue beauty is quite a steal at $69.

Too bad it does not come in different colours. Lovely shape though.
Pretty. My childhood home was all white walls and cobalt accents. I agree that stools are better for drinks than for sitting.
"Some for selling some for keeping" indeed... I agree that this stool would be better in other colors. I would love to see it in a "Jonathan Aldery" super opaque white. This glaze just reminds me of all of that Malaysian garden pottery that was all the rage at Home Depot circa 2001. Although I think that the torqued fluted column shape is absolutely fantastic! I hope that the common theme of faux critic was intentional in this post... if not, seeing a bonafide aristocrat in a page boy wig is satisfying enough...`
omg, nick olsen. how i love your post's so. deals, taste & wit!
i would totally quit my job to come and work for you.
aww, maurah, you made my day! but don't quit that job just yet -- unless you're willing to work for werther's originals and free one-liners.
and chadwick: the faux critic theme is ALWAYS intentional. wasn't it janice dickinson who said "everything about me's fake and i'm perfect"?!? anyway people who talk about stools that seriously need to go home and bite their pillows.
pier one also has a great pagoda etagere:

I just went and bought this stool today after seeing it here. It looks so perfect in front of my shelves, between the two chairs I use to teach violin lessons with.
Thanks, Nick!
