Is This Seat Re-Taken?
I have decided that there is a definite shortage of attractive stools, both eco-friendly and eco-inconsiderate alike. That is why I am nuts about Acronym's indoor/outdoor stool made of reclaimed walnut hardwood and brushed stainless steel. These square seats are a deeper shade of green, as the reclaimed top uses the castoff from the manufacturing of reclaimed flooring, connected with low VOC glues. Available from one of my favorite eco-commerce vendors, Vivavi. I have been told that one might need a seat around when the $1200 (bar or counter height) price tag registers, but a high-design eco-abode takes a little bit of eclectic imagination. Skimp somewhere else.

Handsome piece of furniture (and LOVE the phrase "eco-inconsiderate"!).
I was an advocate and promoter of Domino magazine until now!
In the March 2008 issue, on page 60, I was shocked and outraged to see a real DEAD OCELOT skin used for decorating. I will cease reading this magazine. Creating a demand for dead exotic animals is horrible and an environmental disaster!
It is bewildering that Domino won't consider as a "green" issue the use of killed animals as decor.
I understand it when Elle Decor says (as it does in the most recent issue): "Hey, if animal skins are what people have in their homes, we're gonna show them."
But Domino isn't a purely journalistic magazine. It actively, aggressively preaches green, "eco-friendly" products and practices. In that sense, it's an advocacy magazine.
So why this glaring blind spot? It would be like Consumer Reports refusing to rate automobiles, for fear of upsetting the auto industry.
What is your take on this ocelot skin issue, Zem?
Germi--When you became a blogger for Domino, did anyone tell you that you could and sometimes *should* answer reader questions?
Maybe Zem was never told this?
I think the unique and totally amazing thing about blogging that makes it different from writing for a magazine is the incredible contact you have with your audience - and I know that every blogger communicates with their readers to different degrees and in different ways. It's just about that blogger finding their groove...
I happen to be a blabbermouth! See, I'm even answering questions on someone else's blog! I apologize, Zem!
Since she started blogging, she has never once responded to a comment or question. This gives the impression of either laziness or arrogance.
hi! I am so so very sorry I hadn't responded to comments! I truly would never intend to ignore them at all! Between my own company (ecofabulous), my charity work and my two amazing kids, I admit I sometimes get tooo busy! But I love hearing from you and will promise to respond as much as I possibly can (now that I have the system down :) Thank you for your patience and I look forward to "chatting" with you! zz
I in no way condone the use of wild cat skins. I think it would be atrocious, if it was new. I believe you are referring to the vintage rug, which I would rather them use than toss, but that is my personal belief. I don't think promoting the use of animal skins was the idea, at least I REALLY hope not.
