Shades of Light

Just when I think I've searched through every last el cheapo grande/diamond in the rough/needle in a haystack source on the interweb, the domino market editors take me to deal school.  In the new issue I went crazy for this tassel sconce from fluff emporium Shades of Light. Clicking around on their site I found this great Kensington Shade pendant chandelier -- an impressive 43 inches long - for only $395:

Compare that to Jacques Garcia's lyre lantern for Baker:

For mucho, mucho dinero.  Even Circa Lighting's more elaborate Grosvenor Two-Light Downlight (not available until 2008) runs almost $1500 bucks:

One of the cheapies would look handsome in a library (doesn't have to be on the level of Mrs. Astor's, pages 74-75) or office. Oh! Subversive Malcolm McClaren idea to go with tartan story: protect the brass or nickel with tape and grafitti the pleated fabric shade with spray paint.

You are so good...LOVE these. Any suggestions for a hallway sconce, with tall ceilings, that is high on the wall???

It's funny, I flipped through that catalog at my mother-in-law's house a couple months ago, and in between the cheeseball theme lamps there were some pretty good chandeliers and decent wall lamps. I can't decide if I love or hate the Golden Mavelot Chandelier - 5 Light in silver, what do you think?

thanks kblutz!! for a sconce that sits high on the wall i like this shell or something like it: http://www.invitinghome.com/Indirect_Lighting/ODL501.htm
it may not give off a lot of light though, but anything with a metal backplate would look funky if it's not flanking a fireplace, mirror, etc.

katef, i like it but funny how much better it looks on circa lighting's website:

think i prefer the brass. for something similar (and for a little more $) i like this normandy chandy too:

Thank you Nick. They are perfect!! I can't wait, in a few years, to purchase your coffee table book and buy items from your line at Target. Keep up the great work!!

Wonderful lights, all of them. Nick, any suggestions to replace ugly flush mounts in a high ceiling hallway? I was thinking maybe a simple white fabric drum but they all seem pretty expensive and I'm not sure enough about the look to commit.

I don't know who you are or where you came from... but you just SAVED me! I fell in love with Vaughan lighting's Menton shade, but didn't like the associated price. The light you picked is an absolutely beautiful substitution for thousands less. I'm ordering 2 and a pendant. Thanks again.
