Zipcar
I was driving home from dinner last night when I saw one of these Zipcars. I was told about them a while ago but hadn't actually seen one. The concept is really cool--there are cars all over the city that you can use when you need them. So without the hassle of either owning or renting a car you have one at your disposal. You register with Zipcar and get a card that you hold up to the window of the car you have booked and viola! Off you go and do your grocery shopping. They have them in cities all over the country and the cars are things like cute little Minis - not the schlumpy rentals we're used to. Genius.

I just joined ZipCar this year, and I am in love! It turns Ikea runs into something fun, rather than a schlep on a bus - plus, they pay for your gas, so it really is an incredible deal.
They do pay for gas, which is awesome, but the reason I joined is because you don't have to be 25 to get their insurance. That makes everything so much easier for us youngens!
Wow! Not being such a youngin' myself anymore (28 last week - eek!), I didn't know that - that's excellent.
Seattle has a version of that called flexcar. It's very popular here.
it is amazing, especially in NY where sometimes it is a real drag not having a car, but having one permanently is totally impractical too.
I'm doing my first zipcar Ikea run this weekend! So much easier than renting from the big boys and I have a temp license for NY state so most of the those companies won't accept it even though the DMV says they have to.
Wow, that's a great idea. To bad I live in a community that's too small for something like this, but if I ever move somewhere that has this service, I'll be using it!
or if you are visiting a city where you need a car, it is great.
If you're in Seattle or the West Coast we have Flexcar. I don't use it but I know people who do and love it.
I'm a bit of an alter kocker to be posting here, but I just wanted to mention ZipCars are great. I live in DC, and when I travel I can rent a ZipCar in any city which has them. Great for when I'm in NYC and have to schlepp to The Bronx. ZipCars are GREAT!
