Who's the Joss?
Last week my boss told me to "stop giving away all the good tricks!!" when i mentioned my lacquered lamp shade post. I said I think his job is safe (not many of our clients are buying West Elm vases that apparently break when you look at them). But here I go again. Pearl River has sold this Joss Paper forever:
Literally ten cents per 10" x 15" sheet. I saw it tonight on the walls of an Indian restaurant bathroom and remembered, "Oh, Miles used this in the bathroom of his first apartment!" In person the silver rectangle looks just as chic as the Chinese pewter tea paper panels we get from the D&D for megabucks. A good paper hanger could do a small room--doesn't have to be a turlet--in these squares (with or without the border) or I might try it myself with rubber cement. Also great for wrapping small gifts or to spread out on banquet tables for extra sparkle.

I've been using the orange/gold ones on cards and things for years, but they never had silver in stock when I was buying it. Love that!
I actually did a bathroom door in the orange/gold ones. I've got a box on my desk covered with the silver ones... and all from Pearl River, where I've been going since the early days on Canal Street.
I covered a cheap Ikea end table in the orange and gold paper, years ago. Great to see my ideas aren't that 'insane'!
Why would anyone want to decorate their house with Chinese Ghost Money?

yes! i did a whole foyer in 'hell's bank notes' -- looked great until i had to burn the place down.
I use this paper all the time to write letters. I love it!
In Singapore, there are massive Joss sections of stores and they sell everything from paper suits to credit cards- whatever you can name- for their dead relatives. It's quite amazing how different traditions can be (and how comfortable we are with using funerary stuff as wallpaper!). When I was there, I bought lots of the joss stuff to decorate with (a large pack of the gold & silver paper, Hell money, etc.). It's validating to see that a "true" designer is recommending the exact same thing!
I was thinking about papering the ceiling of my entryway with gold-leaf paper, but couldn't find anything I liked that I could afford. That looks like just the thing!
