'Best Of' Bed
Time for me to start blogging some items in the new "Best Of" section, where esteemed designer panelists (including our Lovely Rita and my Mugatu) revealed all their likes, dislikes, tricks of the trade, secret sources and so on. I can tell you they don't all come cheap! First up is this "Canyon" bed from Ralph Lauren Home pictured on page 62:
Don't get me wrong, Ralph makes gorgeous furniture, but this bed starts at almost $4k! No way Jose. I recommend this good ripoff, suspiciously named the "Cayman" bed, from Restoration Hardware:
On sale right now for $1370!!

Plus, there is always the PB seagrass headboard ($349-449), if you can handle just the headboard look: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/p4341/index.cfm?pkey=cfurbedall
I like the just-a-headboard look. And on that subject, I don't understand why, in the latest issue (Aug.), Liz Lange shelled out all that money for a custom bed (p. 118), then heaped on a bunch of linens so no part of it shows, except the headboard. What a waste of money.
Believe it or not, IKEA has a version of this bed, the Sundnes, for around $300. It's not quite as luxurious looking as the Restoration Hardware version, but for a relatively recent college graduate like myself, the price and design doesn't get much better than this!
