Mas de Tourteron
One of the most fabulous places I have been in a long time is Le Mas de Tourteron in Provence, where I had lunch last week. In true Provencal style, the place is completely charming. You walk through a beautiful garden
to get to this courtyard. All the tables are laid with marcella quilts, which are typical of the area. There are lights hanging from all the trees over the tables to light them at night, and frankly it is all just one of the prettiest things I have encountered in a long time. If you go to Le Guide Gantie you can take a virtual tour around the courtyard. Le Mas belongs to Elizabeth Bourgeois who is celebrated in the area for her wonderful cooking. The menu is superb, rich, Provencal, and it changes daily. You choose between two things for your main course, but otherwise whatever food is available that day just comes to the table, which I happen to love. The best part was definitely the desserts -- peanut, chocolate and salted caramel tart. Oh my god I thought I had died. There was also a raspberry and pistachio tart. You know how the base of French fruit tarts is usually an almond paste? Well, this was made with pistachio. Completely delicious and the best part is how fabulously it is all presented, the website is so pretty and gives a very clear impression of what it is like when you are there -- definitely check it out, you will be booking a flight to France by the time you have finished. A little more on this tomorrow. Chemin de Saint-Blaise Les Imberts Gordes - 84220 Phone: 04.90.72.00.16.

While you are there, try and take some time to sneak off to Troyes. There are some lovely old churches and hidden gems in this adorable little town. Make sure you go to the Sainte-Madeleine and the Basilica. While you are there.. enjoy the Champaigne!
I found this on a website for more info:
Troyes
City of art, the historic capital of Champagne, Troyes now excels in its textile industry with several factory warehouse stores. A visit is necessary of its champagne cork (the town was built in this shape), the pedestrian area with its fine sixteenth century restored half-timbered houses: The Maison du Boulanger, la Tourelle de lOrfe, several churches, enhanced by exceptional stained glass windows, including Sainte-Madeleine church and its sculpted stone partition one of the finest in France and the St-Urbain basilica, a gothic masterpiece. The walk that takes you to the St-Pierre-St-Paul cathedral and the museum of modern art where you can admire the P. et D. Levy collection (namely R. de la Fresnaye, A. Derain, Seurat and Balthus). Do not forget Tool and Workers Thought Museum at the Hotel de Mauroy and the Pharmacy Museum of the H-Dieu, the Fine Arts museum and the museum St Loup de Vauluisant.
This Mas de Tourteron is to die for!
I always resist running down to Provence when in Paris..I think of myself as an urban chickie.
But next trip...Hmmm
Lucky you!
Egad, looks fabulous!
