Vanilla Salt

Vanilla_salt

Vanilla salt? How crazy is this? I am imagining it is fabulous like salted caramels are fabulous. The strange thing is that it comes from Wales, a country known more for its leeks, sheep and rain than its exotic fusions. This is a combination of flaky Welsh salt (delicious) and Tahitian vanilla. It can be used for cooking fish and added to soups, but they also suggest putting a little on top of flourless chocolate cake or hot chocolate - YUM. I am really into the salt/sweet blend. I also had this delicious salted caramel ice cream (actually gelato) the other day. As soon as I find the site for it I will share; I promise.

Go to Chefshop.com for this salt and a ton of other culinary treats.

Oh YUM. I am a huge sucker for fleur de sel caramels and anything salty-sweet, too. I made a salted caramel tart in an almond crust for a dinner party a couple months ago and it was a big hit. Also good is adding hot to the mix: Have you tried those mexican candy powders that have chili powder, salt and sugar in them? Or the guava (I think) pastes that are sweet/salty/hot?

hi there. if you are a vanilla-gal, try this one:http://onceuponatart.blogspot.com/2007/03/homemade-vanilla-sugar-extract.html
vanilla sugar is so easy to make, makes a wonderful present and tastes delicious in coffee, cakes and over a bowl of fresh berries. give it a try! love your blog - i always have a look in the morning - never fails to cheer me up & gets me inspried! (and adds - at least - 1 or 2 things on my shoppinglist for nyc).

Sounds like a natural for fresh strawberries and other berries. As a big fan of chocolate-covered pretzels, I can relate to the salty/sweet combo.
