I Will Wallpaper Your Fridge

Just a little shameless self- (and cross-) promotion:  check out page 80 of this week's  Time Out New York -- that's me in Elise Loehnen's (she of the rope-covered lamp) charming apartment showing you renters how to wallpaper your refrigerator.  I am officially that guy who wallpapers fridges, and I'm here to spread the gospel!  Elise was stuck with the usual boring white fridge and cheap laminate cabinets so she enlisted my help.  Ah, what a roll of wallpaper and a can of rubber cement can do, plus some black electrical tape to give her cabinet doors dimension.  Pretty fab if I do say so myself.

BUT I think the real draw here is the wallpaper:  already featured on apartment therapy L.A. and Design Sponge, Cavern Home makes some of the coolest wallpapers around.  We used their repeating horsey 'Calvary' design, but I think my absolute favorite is the 'Blackbird' :

This one also comes in a beautiful emerald green as the background. At $155 per roll it ain't exactly cheap, but it's hand-printed and the patterns are all so original -- cheeky but not kitschy. Just look at the impact you can achieve with one roll ... wallpaper: not just for walls anymore.

Please no comments about my pale, disembodied hands!

Have you ever tried to wallpaper a dishwasher? Do you think it can be done?

Oooooh, I wish I could see this article. I just posted one on papering a file cabinet. I've wanted to wallpaper my fridge for a few years now. I even went into a fancy schmancy design shop in town to order Designers Guild wallpaper last year and couldn'r resist telling the very proper woman what I wanted it for (they are notoriously snooty.) Well they couldn't "find" the DG books and so my fridge is still cadaveric white. This is DEF on my list of things to do at Casapinka (until I get my pink Smeg fridge, of course.)

Oh heck, I missed that there was a link to this. This made my week!!!

Hi Nick! Your apt. was featured in Apartment Therapy's "good questions" today..... Just thought I'd point it out in case you missed it!

Thank you, Nick, for the how-to! Now that I see how easy (and non-permanent for all of us renters out there) I am SO going to try this! Now the hunt for wallpaper begins.....=)

I put stick-on rhinestones on my fridge in sort of a quilted pattern. Really perks it up.

No comment on your hands...just wanted to say I love the GREEN SOCKS your wearing. I just got back from a vacation and I am as always enjoying reading all of your posts! Thanks for all the advice!

Hi! I'm the one that posted the picture of your living room on aparmenttherapy.com. Your room was on HGTV.com which mentioned you wallpapering your refrigerator. I loved your color usage and am using it for inspiration for my own place that I just moved into. I wrote in to ask where you got your turqoise foo dogs. I also see where you did paper your coffee table with that marbled paper you mentioned in your earlier blog entry. Looks Great!!

i love the creativity you show with an otherwise drab room. i love love love the pattern!!!!
bravo! standing OOOOOOO

This is brilliant! I really want to do it, but I'm worried I would mess it up around the handles. The fridge in my new place also has a water dispenser. I see this fridge was nice and plain. Any tips for making a more complicated terrain look purty?
