Pretty:Darn:Swell Indeed
Here's something really inspiring for the New Year: brother and sister Wade and Lynne Penhorwood have created a website called pretty:darn:swell, which promotes up-and-coming artists AND supports charitable organizations. Small, high quality prints sell for $20, with $5 from each going to a charity of the artists' choosing. My favorite is John Lytle Wilson and his "bird, monkey and rabbit in paradise":
Proceeds benefit an organization called Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, which trains Helping Hands monkeys to help people with everyday tasks they can't perform themselves. Amazing. I love the colors in these (big!) paintings and their tweaked cartoon-y quality. Monkeys, elephants, robots and the great little piggy below -- see the real thing on John's blog.
